Joint HUPX Group-Refinitiv Workshop was held about regional power and gas markets


     

HUPX Group, in cooperation with Refinitiv organized a 2-day workshop under the title „What will shape the CEE and SEE power and gas markets? HUPX Group, a force to be reckoned with” on 13-14 April 2021.

On the first day power markets were in the focus. Mátyás Vajta, CEO of HUPX said that globalization and climate change are the challenges of our generation. He called the attention on the Energy Trilemma and argued that the right market design will help to meet all targets.

László Varró, Chief Economist of the International Energy Agency (IEA) described global trends, such as penetration of renewables and hydrogen, e-mobility, emission reduction and the increasing need for flexibility of energy systems.

A panel discussion moderated by Christian Baer, Secretary General of Europex was held with the participation of László Varró, Mihaela Puica, Senior Power Markets Analyst of Refinitiv and Gábor Szatmári, Head of Sales at HUPX. At the panel the role of PXs was discussed in light of the changes ahead, with a special focus on security, predictability and flexibility

The day was followed by 200 viewers.

The second day was structured around gas market related topics. Dániel Garai, CEO of CEEGEX said that recent developments will boost the energy markets and regarding recovery, credit risk is an advantage of PXs. He stated that change is the new trend in gas markets.

Greg Molnar, Gas Analyst of IEA reflected on global questions, which are characterized by recovery and turbulence at the same time.

The event was concluded with a panel discussion, led by Pál Ságvári, Vice President at the Hungarian Energy and Public Utility Regulatory Authority with the participation of Greg Molnár, Wayne Bryan, Director European Gas Research at Refinitiv and Dániel Garai. Panellists analysed the effects of infrastructural projects on the CEE-SEE region, price effects of LNG and other new sources, and discussed the potential future development paths of CEEGEX and HUDEX.

The event attracted 174 participants.
